    CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a component of Manual Osteopathy. CranioSacral Therapy gently releases tensions and restrictions in your central nervous system allowing your body to relax and self-correct.

William Garner Sutherland developed CranioSacral Therapy (CST) over 60 years ago. His research led to gentle techniques that free up restrictions throughout the cranial sacral mechanism, housing the nervous system throughout the entire body. As a result CranioSacral Therapy has a positive effect on vitality, health, and sense of well-being.

    How does it work?

CranioSacral Therapy uses gentle palpation skills to assess your body’s ability to move cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) throughout your body. Produced within the cranium, CSF bathes and nourishes the brain and spinal cord and is imperative to all of the nerve and fascial functions within the body. We each have a craniosacral rhythm that the entire body responds to, similar to a heart or respiratory rhythm. During a CranioSacral treatment Scott can detect dysfunction by using palpation skills to feel for a lack of movement of this rhythm and flow of cerebral spinal fluid. He then uses gentle techniques to re-balance the rhythms and remove restrictions allowing your body to be in an optimum state to heal the dysfunction at the root cause of the problem. The assessment and treatment techniques used in CranioSacral Therapy involve a wide variety of gentle manipulation techniques focusing on the membranes and vessels within the skull, the entire spinal column, sacrum and the body’s diaphragms.

Signs and symptoms of cranial sacral rhythm dysfunction include aches, pains, chronic conditions, and lack of energy.

    What happens during a treatment?

Your treatment session begins with a complete health survey including a detailed history of your past and current medical conditions and health issues. Using observation and gentle palpation skills Scott then conducts a physical examination assessing all systems and structures that may be related to the area of complaint and affected through compensation.

With the information gathered from the evaluation process, Scott categorizes any dysfunction he finds, creates a treatment plan and reviews his findings with you. A wide variety of highly sophisticated techniques are then used to release tensions and provide treatment to areas of imbalance.

It is recommended that you wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing for the treatment as Scott will need access to your spine.
